Luxury Resources

Luxury Resources are resources which are used to provide bonuses to an Empire through "Boosters". Resource Boosters are activated from the Empire Management screen, where resources that can be activated for a booster are outlined in yellow. Activating a resource booster costs a set amount of that resource, the base cost being 10 of the resource, with an additional 5 for each city after the first, and an additional 2 for each converted village. Once a booster is activated, the bonus is active for 10 turns.

Luxury Resources are obtained either by constructing Extractors on resource nodes found on the map, or by direct purchase from the Marketplace. Extractor construction is unlocked in specific Eras by technological research, whereas the ability to purchase resources from the Marketplace is unlocked by the Era II technology Imperial Coinage.

Terrain with a Luxury Resource deposit also provides +1 DustSmall.png in addition to it's other output.
